Glen and his wife tragically lost their son George at birth in 2010. This was shortly before Glen was due to tackle the Atlantic Coastal Challenge, which involves running three marathons in three days on a tough north Cornwall coastal route. Glen abandoned the event to look after his wife and to grieve for George, who had a rare genetic disorder.
In 2017 he completed the challenge and since then Glen has gone on to do an incredible amount of fundraising for children’s charities.
Earlier this year Glen was embarking on another fundraising event, raising funds for Solving Kids’ Cancer. However, Glen had to abandon this when he fell ill during training. Understandably, Glen was very frustrated about this and he had to spend some time off work recuperating at home.
Glen was nominated for a Random Act of Kindness by Ruth Kerridge in our Torquay office. Touched by his story, we set about finding something which would bring Glen some cheer. Knowing he was a huge fan of Everton FC, we sent him a hand-signed photo of Everton’s 1985 Cup Winners’ Cup team.
We were delighted to receive the following feedback from Glen:
“So this signed photo arrived today. I think most people are aware I’m a massive Everton fan (even after a lifetime of heartache) so to receive a signed/framed photo of the 1985 European Cup Winners Cup team has quite literally made my year. It seems Cooper Associates run a ‘random acts of kindness’ scheme where they present people with once in a lifetime gifts. I’ve said before that the charity events I do take a lot out, time away from family and friends, physical exhaustion, health issues, not to mention financial costs, so to be recognised and to receive this made me very emotional. It’s been a tough few months for me personally and this means more to me than I can say! Thanks so much to Ruth Kerridge for the nomination!”
