Christmas is a special time for children; performing in a nativity, singing carols and being on their best behaviour so they get a visit from their beloved Father Christmas. However, for children spending Christmas in hospital, it is a very different experience.
With that in mind Katherine Hannaford, our Adviser Transition Manager, with her daughter Isla and her friend, visited the Acorn children’s ward at Musgrove Park Hospital last week. This paediatric ward operates as an assessment unit and short-stay ward, as well as providing specialist care for young infants.

Katherine, Isla and her friend arrived with a trolley full of toys to be donated to the poorly children who will sadly not be enjoying Christmas in the comfort of their own family homes this year. This was partially funded by a £250 contribution from Cooper Associates Group. In addition, they brought cake for the staff to enjoy and visited people on the ward to spread their festive cheer and love to all the families.
Upon her visit, Katherine had the following to say:
“We all had a super day visiting the children and their families, as well as the staff, on the Children’s Acorn ward at Musgrove Park Hospital. Everyone was extremely welcoming and appreciative for all the kindness and generosity of all the donations, especially the Play Team. The Play Team are always seeking ways to ensure the children on the ward can still enjoy being a child despite their illness. They rely heavily on donations and contributions from locals, so it was great to do our bit.”
